Over the years Dragons Abreast has grown from a fledgling club to one of almost 90 members. The group regularly paddle on Saturday mornings with 2 boats on the water. The team have participated in numerous local, national and international events and focussing this year on participating in the Dragons Abreast Festival in Sydney and Club Crew World Championships being held in Adelaide 2016.

On Saturday 13th June 2015 Brisbane celebrated the 20th anniversary by holding 2 events. The first event was a community come and try morning. With support from Brisbane River Dragons Dragon Boat and Outrigger Canoe Club, Dragons Abreast Brisbane offered all new paddlers the opportunity to come along and try various paddling experiences in dragon boats, outrigger canoes and kayaks.

In the afternoon the Dragons Abreast Brisbane club held a ‘Bubbles, Fascinators and Bow Ties’ gala afternoon at The Colmslie hotel. Members and friends of DA Brisbane glammed up for a fun afternoon of champers, nibbles and jazz music provided by local and international jazz duo ‘Out of Abingdon’. The room was ‘a glitter’ with all sorts of fascinator head wear, pink decorations plus various flags and banners.

There was an amazing memorabilia display of club history from past domestic and international regatta campaigns. Much interest was paid to international events breast cancer crew who paddled in Rome in 2002 and Shanghai in 2004 which was started the beginning of the IBCPC. We also had lots of photos and memorability from AIAB’s anniversary in 2005, Singapore in 2006, AIA in Australia in 2007, Peterborough in 2010 and Sarasota in 2014. Guests were surprised how far the international breast cancer paddling experience has grown.

The afternoon finished with the cutting of a 20th anniversary birthday cake for Abreast in a Boat members. This was done by our speakers and guests who also announced the winners of the raffles and silent auctions. All funds raised were donated to DAA. In total we had 114 guests which also included Cr Shane Sutton from Brisbane City Council who also presented us with a Brisbane City Flag.

So Brisbane certainly celebrated the 20th Anniversary of Abreast in a Boat on and off the water with style and glamour.
