StartFragmentPool of Life is a registered charity and was the first established dragon boat team for breast cancer survivors in the UK, based at Queen's Dock in Liverpool. The team was set up in 2004, under the guidance and support of Liverpool-based Amathus Dragon Boat Club, to help raise breast cancer awareness and to demonstrate that women and men living with breast cancer can lead full and active lives. In October 2014 we celebrated our 10th anniversary with a grand ball. We offer friendship, emotional support and healthy exercise, through our paddling and social events. Because we have a close association with Amathus Dragon Boat Club (who are currently UK national dragon boat racing champions) Pool of Life has developed into a team that regularly takes part in competitive racing as well as 'fun' and 'social' paddle events. In 2013 we paddled the Vogalonga in Venice, last year we raced in Dublin at the city's Dragon Boat Regatta and in 2016 we are racing in Murcia (Spain). In 2006 we took part in the 1st Breast Cancer Survivor (BCS) Dragon Boat World Championships in Singapore and came home with silver medals! In 2018 we hope to take a team to the 5th international IBCPC participatory festival in Florence, Italy. But it's not all about racing. We offer regular boat-based training sessions all year round, offered at 3 levels from beginner to advanced, as well as social paddle sessions. We also organise an annual charity dragon boat festival in Liverpool (called Dragons & Flowers) and take part in other charity events, such as Race for Life. The social side is never far away, with a range of events offered throughout the year including walks, quizzes, theatre trips, meals out etc. We welcome any opportunity to meet up with other BCS crews....any members of any BCS team are welcome to come and join our paddle sessions if they are visiting Liverpool. Or why not have a team weekend in Liverpool in early May 2016 and come and compete for the 'Breast Cancer Trophy' at our annual Dragons & Flowers charity event. Don't be shy, please get in touch! www.pooloflife.net EndFragment
