Six Port Edgar Dragons went to the first ever British Paddlers for Life Dragon Boat Regatta. What a spectacular setting Lake Windermere was for the event. A breezy morning we joined health workers from Lancashire to make up the very noisy and colourful team ‘Oarsome’. We were put through our paces in the warm ups – then out on to the water…… Timing is everything on a dragon boat and it took us a while to get into the rythym!

Five teams each participated in four heats. The third and fourth fastest times over 200 metres went forward to the minor final and the two fastest teams went forward to the major final.

We had a lot of fun…………….

There were prizes for a quiz, best dressed team, most enthusiastic team – that was us, we were the noisiest too! and champions of the day as well as the overall regatta winners who were ‘English Lakes Hotels Dragons’. We even came back with a trophy!

Many of the Paddlers for Life women we met, who had come through cancer themselves were about to leave for an international dragon boat meet in Sarasota!
